Founded in Modena in 1879, Stanguellini began tuning and racing FIATs before building its own racing cars after World War II.
In 1957, the company introduced its Formula Junior, powered by a FIAT 1100 engine and featuring a tubular chassis. The prototype was tested by Juan Manuel Fangio.
Dominating European racing in 1958 and 1959, Stanguellini won several international championships and helped launch the careers of legendary drivers such as Lorenzo Bandini, Richie Ginther and Wolfgang von Trips.
Offered with its original Portuguese title, this Stanguellini Formula Junior is one of the very few 'Formula' cars registered for the road. Powered by a FIAT 1100 engine (as it is today), chassis number '0179' was delivered new in Italy in 1960 to Mario Rossini and is believed to have had five owners in Italy and Portugal. Its subsequent owners were Franco Burdisso (until 1989), Luigi Lomolino (until 2000), Tito de Noronha (until 2021) and then the current owner.
'00179' is known by the current owner to have competed in the following events:
> March 1960 Stallavena-Bosco Chiesanuova hill climb
> April 1960 Circuito di Cesenatico (number '8')
> July 1960 VI Gran Premio Città di Salerno in Formula Junior
> October 1993 Coppa Ascari
> May 1999 Monza
> October 1999 Imola
> Until 2000, Lurani Trophy
> 2021 Rampa Historica Michelin, Caramulo Motor Festival
Offered with a Portuguese registration document and CSAI technical passport (expired 2004), this beautiful Stanguellini represents an affordable entry into the increasingly popular historic Formula Junior events.
